“Snippets from the Western Front” is a collection of 11 watercolours and 12 drawings, the result of visiting the towns, cementries, battlefields, and memorials of soldiers who served the British Empire.
The selection of subjects was a result of their emotional impact, historical significance or beauty to the artist.
“The Participation of Australias in military conflicts abroad has always been of significance to Australians. As we are now only a decade from the Centenary of the Anzacs entering the Great War in service of ‘The Empire’, this will be a very special time for many people.
As we commemorate the centenary, I think many people will be searching for knowledge and understanding and that was part of the inspiration for the “Written in Stone” exhibition of which “Snippets of the Western Front” is a forerunner.
